Popular questions

Are the makers of Ovaltine committed to ethical sourcing?

Yes. Our commitment to an ethical stance is shown in three main ways. We also have further information on our ethically sourced cocoa by clicking here

Ethical sourcing

We are 100% committed to ethical sourcing. The cocoa we buy is from industry leaders. They take an active role in improving conditions and educating farmers about better farming methods and working conditions. Our suppliers work at an industry level and are members of the 'International Cocoa Initiative'.

International Cocoa Initiative

We are also proud to be a Contributing Partner of the International Cocoa Initiative (ICI).

The ICI was established to support the prevention and elimination of dangerous or exploitative labour practices in cocoa growing, amongst both adults and children. ICI programmes have a proven track-record in protecting children, reducing the incidence of child labour, and promoting grass-roots development so that cocoa-growing communities can thrive.

As an active Contributing Partner of the ICI, we're visibly demonstrating our genuine pledge to tackle the problem of child and forced labour in the cocoa supply chain.

Ovaltine operate under the UTZ mass balance certification scheme and will be supporting sustainable farming by buying certified cocoa.

UTZ Certified Cocoa stands for sustainable farming and better opportunities for farmers, their families and our planet.

The UTZ program enables farmers to learn better farming methods, improve working conditions and take better care of their children and the environment.

Through the UTZ-programme farmers grow better crops, generate more income and create better opportunities while safeguarding the environment and securing the earth's natural resources.

'UTZ' means "good" in the Mayan language Quiché.
