Ethical Sourcing

Find out more about our Ethical Sourcing Programme for all other products and ingredients in our supply chain

At Ovaltine we are committed to doing good for our people, suppliers and the communities who grow our ingredients.

We have an Ethical Sourcing Programme for all other products and ingredients in our supply chain. Our Code of Conduct sets out the core social principles that production sites must follow to ensure products are made in good working conditions and that the people making them are treated decently and paid a fair wage. It is based upon the main conventions of the International Labour Organization (ILO) and the Base Code of the Ethical Trading Initiative (ETI) and sets out the following principles:

  • Employment is freely chosen
  • Freedom of Association and the right to collective bargaining are respected
  • Working conditions are safe and hygienic
  • Child labour shall not be used
  • Living wages are paid
  • Working hours are not excessive
  • No discrimination is practised
  • Regular employment is provided
  • No harsh or inhumane treatment is allowed
  • No Bribery or corruption will be tolerated
  • Environmental requirements
  • Legal requirements

Our monitoring and improvement programme is designed to monitor conformance with our Code of Conduct and to address any issues that may be identified. Where issues are identified, in line with industry best practices, we generally continue to engage with suppliers, as long as they are committed to make the required corrective action within an agreed period. We provide support to suppliers to facilitate improvement.

We are also a member of Sedex, the Supplier Ethical Data Exchange, a labour standards sharing database which helps brands like us to track and analyse ethical audit data from suppliers.
